Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, telehealth options are available where needed, however in person sessions are always preferred if possible.
Unfortunately no. At this point we only offer treatment in a block format with the possibility of a number of follow up visits for those who have done a block, as part of a relapse prevention program, if required. We understand that this won’t suit (or be the best option) for everyone.
We do correspond with your referring medical practitioner which is a requirement for all people referred under the Medicare program. It is also considered good practice generally.
We don’t provide assessments or reports for Safe Work SA, Victims of Crime or Third Part Motor Vehicle claims, Family Court or criminal matters.
For the most part what you say in therapy is confidential, and we will never share your information with anyone without your written consent. There are, however, some exceptions to this including:
-
If your file is subpoenaed a court or disclosure is otherwise required or authorised by law (for example Psychologists are prescribed mandatory reporters and must report any reasonable concerns about risk of harm to children); or
-
If there is a reasonable belief that failure to disclose information would place you or another person at serious risk of life, health or safety; or
-
If your prior written approval has been obtained; or
-
If disclosure to another professional or agency (e.g., your GP) is for a purpose which is directly related to your referral to us. For example we are required to provide your referring doctor with an update letter from time to time.
-
Yes, absolutely! If you improve quickly then that’s great, and if you are not getting the benefit you hoped then you can finish the treatment early. We just ask that you give us as much notice as you can and some feedback if you are able.
Each sessions is 50 to 60 minutes in length.
There are some cases in which there might be a couple of extra sessions booked, or even another block of therapy. This might happen when:
-
There is a need to do a couple of follow-up relapse prevention sessions
-
With some severe, long term anxiety disorders (such as moderate to severe OCD) there may be need for further treatment blocks. This would be considered if reasonable progress had been made in the first block and there were indications that further treatment would likely be of benefit to you.
If there are other life issues, or non-anxiety related mental health issues, we generally suggest you see another Mental Health Professional following the end of your therapy block with ITCA.
